Tax Manager - Public

We are looking for a skilled Tax Manager that will work 100% onsite in Spokane Valley, WA with a growing public accounting team. The ideal person for this role is a technically strong tax specialist who enjoys researching complex issues, guiding client strategy, and building long-term advisory relationships. The position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of individual and business clients while contributing to proactive tax planning and high-quality compliance services. This is a strong fit for someone who wants to grow into a signing-level leadership role over time.

Responsibilities:

Manage tax engagements for a mix of individual and business clients, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of returns and related filings. Research federal and multi-state tax matters, interpret applicable rules, and develop practical solutions for client-specific issues. Lead proactive tax planning efforts throughout the year, including quarterly reviews and advisory discussions that help clients make informed decisions. Review completed tax work, identify technical risks, and maintain quality standards across engagements. Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by explaining tax positions clearly and strengthening ongoing client relationships. Supervise and support less experienced team members, offering guidance on technical issues, workflow, and career development. Use firm technology and tax applications, including Thomson Reuters products, UltraTax, Fixed Assets, and research platforms, to complete and review assignments efficiently. Contribute to practice growth by supporting client retention, identifying advisory opportunities, and assisting with business development when appropriate. Active CPA license required, or meaningful progress toward licensure with at least one or two exams passed. Master's degree in Taxation is strongly preferred. At least 5 years of public accounting tax experience required; candidates with extensive experience are strongly preferred. Strong technical tax knowledge with the ability to research tax law, analyze complex issues, and recommend sound solutions. Experience preparing and reviewing corporate and federal income tax returns, tax provisions, and related compliance work. Ability to manage client relationships effectively and communicate tax concepts clearly to both colleagues and clients. Interest in advancing into a higher-level signing or supervisory role within a public accounting environment.
