For over thirty years, we have assisted individuals and small businesses with income tax preparation and planning, as well as providing wealth management and retirement planning services. Job Summary This is a part-time or full-time seasonal role preparing taxes during tax season, with the potential for part-time off-season work. Pay is typically commission-based with a draw, but alternative arrangements will be considered. As a Seasonal Income Tax Preparer with Martin Tax & Financial Services, your primary responsibilities will include meeting with clients and preparing personal income tax returns as well as providing tax advice, while building and deepening relationships with our clients during tax season. Options for working in the off-season may be available. Role and Responsibilities Conduct face to face tax interviews with clients in person and some virtually. Gathering and accurately entering customer information into our industry-leading tax preparation software. Complete federal, state and local tax returns accurately and ensure timely e-filing. Advise clients throughout the tax preparation process by sharing results and discussing future tax planning needs. Review letters and notices from taxing authorities associated with client tax returns, advise clients and assist clients in resolving any issues. Ensure safekeeping and confidentiality of client records and information. Maintain the strength of our client relationships by providing services in a highly professional manner and by treating all clients equally and fairly. Generate business growth and assist in promoting our other services. Attend to the needs of clients to inspire them to refer our services and come back year after year. Desired Skills and Characteristics Knowledge of current tax laws and concepts with at least two years of experience preparing tax returns for a fee. Strong understanding of and adherence to confidentiality requirements to protect client and company proprietary information. Excellent customer service skills and a commitment to servicing clients with integrity and professionalism. Ability to communicate with co-workers, clients and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner both verbally and in writing. Excellent organizational skills and a deadline-driven mindset. Ability to work well with others and collaborate in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, as well as the ability to work well independently. Aptitude to learn and effectively use multiple software applications. Experience working with data management systems (CRM) and other software. Ability to apply critical thinking and reasoning to all areas of tax preparation. Ability to research tax topics and seek assistance when necessary. Embrace curiosity and innovation. Willingness to collaborate with co-workers on various tax matters and to mentor and support teammates. Qualifications and Education Requirements Minimum of two years' experience in income tax preparation at a CPA firm or tax preparation company, preparing individual income tax returns required. Experience preparing 1120, 1120S, 1064, 1041 and 990 returns preferred. Have an active PTIN or be eligible for a PTIN. High School diploma or higher required. Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred. CPA or Enrolled Agent certification preferred. Securities industry experience a plus, but not required.
