  • Part-time, Full-time About Us Brandt Marino, CPA PC is a Houston-based CPA firm providing tax preparation, tax planning, accounting, and advisory services to individuals and small businesses.
We are looking for an experienced tax preparer who can contribute immediately by working directly with clients in a professional, service-oriented environment. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Tax Preparer with strong individual and business tax preparation skills, bookkeeping knowledge, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients. The candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a small CPA firm environment. Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare individual, business, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Review client-provided tax documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Communicate with clients regarding missing information, tax questions, and filing status.
  • Assist with tax planning and year-end tax projections.
  • Use bookkeeping knowledge to identify issues in client records and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Work with QuickBooks or similar accounting software as needed.
  • Maintain organized workpapers and documentation.
  • Provide professional and responsive client service.
  • Assist with general accounting and tax-related projects as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Adapt to and effectively use new technology, software, and workflow improvements. Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of tax preparation experience.
  • Experience preparing individual and small business tax returns.
  • Bookkeeping knowledge required.
  • Strong understanding of federal income tax concepts.
  • Ability to interact professionally with clients by phone, email, and in person.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize work during busy season.
  • Willingness to embrace technology changes and learn new systems.
  • CPA license is not required.
  • Enrolled Agent designation is preferred.
  • Experience with UltraTax CS is a plus.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and small business clients is a plus.
  • An Enrolled Agent designation is preferred but not required.
Schedule and Work Environment This position requires approximately 50-55 hours per week during busy season months, including February through April and August through October. During non-busy-season months, the schedule is flexible and usually includes Fridays off, depending on workload and firm needs. Potential for hybrid work may be available for the right candidate after they have demonstrated a strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to manage responsibilities independently. Compensation and Benefits Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and skill level. The position also includes eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus. A retirement plan with employer matching is available after 3 months of employment. There is also potential for a healthcare insurance allowance.
