Being a teller is one of most important assets in our culture—money. This position is the frontline staff of our bank. A head teller oversees the daily operations of the bank's teller line, balancing front-line leadership with hands-on customer service. They are responsible for managing cash flow, mentoring and scheduling the teller team, and ensuring branch compliance with all banking regulations and security protocols.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
Supervise, train, and mentor teller staff. Create work schedules, assign duties, and evaluate performance to ensure adequate window coverage during peak hours.
Act as the primary vault teller. Order cash from the Federal Reserve, balance the vault daily, and replenish cash as needed.
Process complex transactions and approve supervisor overrides for transactions exceeding standard teller limits. Investigate and resolve out-of-balance situations and complex customer complaints.
Ensure all transactions and cash handling procedures follow banking policies and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular audits of cash drawers and transaction logs as needed.
Provides account services to customers by receiving deposits and loan payments; cashing checks; issuing savings withdrawals; recording night and mail deposits; selling cashier's checks, traveler's checks, and series e bonds; answering questions in person or on telephone; referring to other bank services.
Records transactions by logging cashier's checks and other special services; preparing currency transaction reports.
Cross-sells bank products by answering inquiries; informing customers of new services and product promotions; ascertaining customers' needs; directing customers to a branch representative.
Completes special requests by closing accounts; taking orders for checks; providing special statements, copies, and referrals; completing safe-deposit box procedures.
Reconciles cash drawer by proving cash transactions; counting and packaging currency and coins; reconciling loan coupons and other transactions; turning in excess cash and mutilated currency to head teller; maintaining supply of cash and currency.
Complies with bank operations and security procedures by participating in all dual-control functions; maintaining customer traffic surveys; auditing other tellers' currency; assisting in certification of proof.
Maintains customer confidence and protects bank operations by keeping information confidential.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Skills/Qualifications:
2-5 years of cash handling experience and/or teller/banking/customer service experience. Comprehensive understanding of banking laws, regulations, and security procedures.
