Role:
Under the direct supervision of the MFS Branch Manager, the Multilingual Member Relations Officer is responsible for assisting members with all aspects of member service including accurately processing account transactions, handling file maintenance, opening and closing accounts, interviewing applicants applying for consumer loans, cross-selling products and services that will improve the members' financial wellbeing, and assisting other departments with Spanish translation services as needed. Project a friendly and professional attitude while assisting all members and potential members with their financial needs, and continuously work to exceed member's expectations through providing exceptional service and proactive servicing skills. Be knowledgeable of all products and services the Credit Union offers and provide members with the necessary information to make informed financial decisions. Demonstrate courtesy and teamwork through positive interactions with co-workers and management across the organization. Promote positive relationships with representatives from local schools, universities, and community partners to communicate the benefits of credit union membership.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Accurately process member transactions, including share deposits, share withdrawals, loan payments, and account transfers, while ensuring compliance with credit union policies and procedures. Properly inspect and verify cash and negotiable instruments received. Complete large currency transaction reports and suspicious activity reports as required. Maintain strict confidentiality of member account information to protect operations and build member trust. Provide exceptional member service while working in a high-volume transaction and sales environment. Assist members with requested financial transactions, answering questions and/or resolving problems pertaining to the various products and services offered by the Credit Union. Assist other departments throughout the Credit Union with translation services for our Spanish speaking members. Open a variety of new shares, certificates, and checking accounts. Explain various account ownership options and provide necessary counseling to meet the stated needs and objectives of the member. Obtain all required information and documentation. Prepare paperwork for the member applicant signatures, and review for completeness and accuracy. Assist members with their loan requests by answering questions and helping them complete loan applications accurately. Provide clear explanations of loan terms and required documents to support members through the loan application process. Cross-sell additional loan protection products including GAP, MBP, and Credit Life/Disability coverage. Meet monthly production goals as assigned by discussing products available to determine how the Credit Union can best meet the members' financial needs. Interview members for further consideration to cross-sell products and services that are beneficial while giving them all the necessary information to make informed decisions. Promote meaningful relationships with local schools, universities, and community partner representatives to promote credit union membership and benefits to their employees.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:
Previous experience in customer service and cash handling at a Credit Union or financial institution preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Interpersonal Skills:
A significant level of trust, diplomacy and professionalism is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others, building relationships, soliciting cooperation and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature.
Other Skills:
Proficient in Bilingual Spanish/English speaking and listening skills. Possess a working knowledge of office equipment and procedures, including ability to operate a computer, navigate the internet, and use Microsoft Office. Ability to make mathematical computations, use a 10 key calculator, type with reasonable speed and accuracy, and write legibly. Possess mental alertness, neatness in appearance, flexibility, punctuality, and dependability. Must be bondable.
Work Environment:
The goal of the Multilingual Financial Services Branch is to provide a single source for most of the financial needs of our Spanish speaking members. Because of varying branch operating hours, events, functions, meetings/or training, working on weekends and evenings may be required. The responsibilities associated with this position may change from time to time in accordance with the organization's goals and business needs.
