(- Subject to change) May 11, 2026 May 29, 2026 June 5, 2026 Purpose The Teller within the Revenue Collection Division collects and validates all monies due to the City of Milwaukee and performs daily balancing of processed receipts and disbursements.
TELLER/CASHIERING
Process payments through the Munis Tax System and the iNovah Cashier System for real estate and personal property taxes and special improvement bonds. Collect accounts receivable and water bill payments. Collect and validate receipts for deposits presented by City departments. Process garnishment fees. Collect and validate license fees. Audit, complete, prepare, match and mail animal licenses to owners. Collect health, dental, and group life insurance premium payments and process electronically. Process City employee travel, salary advances and reimbursements. Prepare accounts payable checks for mailing and disburse pickup items when required. Cash personal checks for City employees. Prepare daily accounting of all cash, checks, and balance receipts. Receive customer payments and record payment arrangements. Accept payments through U.S. mail and process payments in accordance with approved cashiering procedures.CUSTOMER SERVICE
Provide excellent customer service by professionally and courteously responding to customer inquiries concerning bills, accounts, services, ongoing cases and/or policies and procedures, via the telephone and in person. Explain departmental policies to customers. Resolve inquiries and complaints satisfactorily.ADMINISTRATIVE AND REPORTING
Compile and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for job functions. Prepare daily end-of-day reports. Prepare reports for City Departments regarding license fee collections, accounts receivable and health insurance. Perform accurate data entry of customer contact, account updates, problem resolution and/or documents into the departmental information system. Review and prepare documents; process and send correspondence. Conditions of Employment The standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 4:45 p.m.; the Treasurer's Office is open to the public from 8:15 a.m.

Skill in cashiering, keyboarding and data entry. Ability to quickly perform accurate mathematical calculations. Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to learn and effectively use departmental software applications such as Munis, iNovah, and Microsoft Office. Proficient in the use of office equipment, such as cash registers, check scanners, calculators, copiers, and currency counters. Ability to handle large sums of money and accurately process transactions. Ability to maintain accurate departmental records. Ability to read, understand, and process work-related documents such as bills, financial records, correspondence, forms and reports. Ability to learn, retain, and apply work rules, practices, and policies.CUSTOMER SERVICE
Knowledge of customer service best practices and the ability to effectively integrate them into operational processes. Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette. Ability to greet and professionally serve walk-in customers and manage a high volume of customer inquiries. Ability to provide excellent customer service to people from all socioeconomic, educational and cultural backgrounds. Ability to remain composed and diplomatic when working under pressure, even when people are upset.COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL
Written communication skills, including the ability to accurately record information and prepare correspondence, forms, reports, and standard operating procedures. Verbal communication skills to present information and respond to questions from staff and the general public. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with coworkers and customers whose backgrounds may differ from one's own.CRITICAL THINKING AND PROFESSIONALISM

Current Salary The current salary range (Pay Range 6KN) is $49,399 annually, and the resident incentive starting salary for City of Milwaukee residents is $51,375 annually.BENEFITS
