Job Description

SUMMARY The Controller provides supervision and oversight of the general accounting functions of CRNA. Ensures the proper maintenance of accounting records, reporting of financial activities, and other related duties in the daily administration of the department. This position requires sound knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, reporting requirements and ensures compliance with all applicable Federal and State financial requirements. The Controller provides support to the operational departments and is a key participant in the development of the organization's annual budget.
JOB DUTIES
Oversee work performed by Accounting Manager, Financial Analyst, and AP Specialist. Assist CFO in the preparation of monthly financial statements. Assist CFO in preparation of annual organizational budget. Creates workpapers for annual external audit. Backup to the Accounting Manager (duties include grant accounting and reporting, etc) and Financial Specialist (duties include bank and credit card reconciliations, etc) positions. Monthly reconciliation of specific asset/liability GL accounts. Responsible for the completion of annual insurance applications and the allocation of insurance premiums to various departments and funds. Assist CFO with new and updating existing finance policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
Knowledge of 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance. Knowledge of
PL 93-638
Compacts for IHS and BIA. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of governmental accounting practices and principles. Skilled in preparing financial statements, schedules and reports for informational, auditing and operational use. Skilled in reconciling accounts, records, and reports. Skilled at developing departmental and organizational operational budgets. Skilled in reviewing and verifying accuracy of data. Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products (specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Excellent interpersonal skills in the areas of creative problem-solving, conflict resolution, group planning and decision-making processes. Ability to motivate and direct the workflow of department staff. Ability to make sound, independent judgments within established policies and procedures. Ability to organize own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines. Ability to prepare and deliver clear, concise, timely, and persuasive reports, both orally and in writing. Must have strong customer service, ethics and interpersonal skills necessary to interact positively with diverse range of agencies, organizations and individuals. Strong understanding and sensitivity to Alaska Native culture and lifestyle. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as required for HIPAA, other regulations and organization matters.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
(Education & Experience) Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. 5+ years of full cycle accounting experience and/or auditing experience. 2+ years of management experience (teams of 3+ staff members).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
(Education) Master's degree in accounting, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 25 lbs. The majority of work is performed in an office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. The office is a non-smoking facility with outside smoking areas. May require local travel between compact services of CRNA which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Works in an environment where protection of client confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided where/when needed.
SPECIFICATIONS
Supervision Received:
Work will be monitored through meetings, reports, and regular communication with the immediate supervisor. General guidelines for operations are based on program requirements, conditions of grant award(s), and the general policies and procedures of CRNA.
Supervision Exercised:
Position will exercise supervision of assigned staff and complete required documentation, including performance evaluations, training, and general oversight through direct reports.
Contacts:
Contacts include and not limited to volunteers, organizational staff, clients, and outside agencies.
CONDITIONS OF HIRE

Unless specified in writing, no term of employment is expressed or implied for this position. CRNA is a no tolerance workplace. All employees must pass an initial and random drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment. CRNA has several positions which require a criminal background check for the safety of our clients. All employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until CRNA has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs. First Aide/CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire for required positions. As applicable by position and company policy, must meet standards for fitness for duty, immunizations, credentialing and privileging.
