Financial Controller Guthrie's Franchising, Inc. Position Summary Guthrie's Chicken is a restaurant chain serving freshly-made chicken fingers, premium fries, family-recipe dipping sauce, Texas toast and scratch-made coleslaw. Guthrie's is America's original chicken finger concept, having been the first restaurant to serve chicken fingers exclusively. A family-owned business celebrating our 60th Anniversary this year, Guthrie's Chicken established what has now become the multi-billion-dollar QSR fried chicken finger sector, and preceded chains like Raising Cane's and Zaxby's with Guthrie's Golden Fried Chicken Fingers and signature Guthrie's Sauce. Guthrie's Franchising, Inc. is the operating company and growth-oriented franchisor for our 75+-unit chain, headquartered in Auburn, Alabama. Guthrie's made a strategic decision this year to bring on a President & CEO to lead Guthrie's anticipated growth which includes the opening of 10-15 new locations in the remainder of 2026 and will be followed by more than double already in development over the next two years. The Controller is a new position to support the company's leadership team and growth. We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Controller to manage all accounting and financial operations for Guthrie's Franchising, Inc. This role handles franchise royalty and advertising fund accounting, corporate accounting, cashflow management, payroll, A/R, A/P, and sales reporting. Reporting to the President & CEO of Guthrie's Franchising, the Controller will serve as a key partner to the CEO, COO and Guthrie's Owners providing accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and actionable financial insight to support continued expansion. This position is an opportunity to join the leadership team of a dynamic, growth-oriented company in a hands-on role. Core Responsibilities Financial Leadership
  • Control monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Manage monthly close and cash flow reporting and planning
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls
  • Manage banking relationships
  • Coordinate annual audit and tax compliance
  • Deliver executive dashboards and KPI reporting Franchise Revenue & Royalty Accounting Handle accurate calculation and collection Franchise Royalties, Advertising Fund contributions and all franchise related income Oversee system-wide weekly and monthly sales reporting (75 units) Validate franchisee POS submissions and reconcile to royalty calculations Account for and book initial franchise fees and development agreements Monitor same-store sales, AUV, and system performance metrics Support enforcement of financial provisions in franchise agreements Advertising Fund Management Maintain separate accounting for advertising/marketing fund Track contributions and spending Ensure compliance with franchise agreements and reporting transparency Corporate Accounting Operations Oversee A/R, A/P, general ledger, and cash management Manage payroll processing and PTO accrual tracking Manage expense reporting and corporate credit cards Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies Company & CEO Support Oversee some HR functions and Guthrie's Franchising, Inc.
employee compliance Handle insurance programs and relationships Support acquisitions, expansion planning, and capital initiatives Execute special financial projects as directed by the CEO Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred) 10+ years progressive accounting experience; 4+ years leadership Multi-unit restaurant or franchisor experience is an advantage Direct experience with royalty accounting, ad fund management, and sales reporting Strong GAAP knowledge and revenue recognition expertise Advanced Excel and ERP proficiency and knowledge of QuickBooks Full-time, non-remote, based in Auburn Headquarters Ideal Candidate Profile Operationally minded finance leader with strong analytical skills High ownership mentality with hands-on execution and accuracy Self-starter who is comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture High integrity and discretion with confidential financial information Proven ability to support executive leadership Salary & Compensation
