FINANCIAL CONTROLLER NEEDED IN TUSCALOOSA
•Job Summary The Construction Controller is a pivotal financial leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire accounting and financial function of the construction company. This position ensures the accuracy of financial reporting, implements robust internal controls, and provides critical financial analysis to senior management and the company owner to drive operational and project profitability. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting and Analysis Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and comprehensive Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports. Monitor and analyze project costs, variances, and trends, conducting in-depth job costing to identify cost-saving opportunities and enhance project profitability. Develop, maintain, and monitor annual operating budgets and financial forecasts, reporting budgeting variances to the owner and executives. Manage daily cash flow, including monitoring and forecasting cash needs, and reconciling investment and checking activity. Directly manage the day-to-day financial operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and invoicing. Implement and maintain a comprehensive system of internal accounting controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud. Oversee payroll processing, including tracking man-hours and headcounts. Manage the general ledger and coordinate month-end and year-end close processes. Manage all aspects of tax compliance, including overseeing the preparation and filing of local, state, and federal tax returns and registrations. Oversee the commercial insurance program, manage claims, and enforce subcontractor insurance requirements. Coordinate quarterly accounting reviews and annual audits with outside CPA firms. Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and industry-specific regulations. Work directly with the owner, providing strategic financial leadership and support for decision-making. Collaborate cross-functionally with project managers and operations teams to ensure financial directives are followed. Continuously assess and improve financial processes, systems, and procedures for efficiency.
Qualifications Required:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Experience:
Proven proficiency and hands-on experience utilizing QuickBooks for daily accounting, payroll, and invoicing functions. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in construction or cost accounting. Solid knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, revenue recognition, and WIP reporting.
Preferred:
CPA, CMA, or CCIFP certification. Master of Business Administration (MBA). Experience with construction-specific ERP software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Trimble TC1, QuickBooks Contractors Edition). Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and modeling. Demonstrated ability to function as a strong leader, communicator, and team player. 8a-5p / M-F Benefits available Pay is DOE $70k-$90k
