Job Description

Epick Homes, a well-established and respected builder serving the Chico area for many years, is seeking an experienced Controller to step into a key leadership role as part of a planned retirement succession. This is a rare opportunity to join a long-standing local construction company known for its quality craftsmanship, stable operations, and deep community roots. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in construction accounting, with strong expertise in job costing and the ability to oversee both day-to-day accounting operations and long-term financial planning within a small-to-mid-sized building environment. This role is well-suited for a seasoned finance professional who values stability, local impact, and the opportunity to step into a trusted leadership position within a well-established and respected homebuilding organization.
Core Responsibilities Job Cost Accounting:
Establish and manage the job cost structure to track expenses, compare actual costs against budgets, and analyze profitability for each home built.
Financial Reporting & Close:
Oversee the year-end close process, including the preparation of financial statements for multiple entities, including corporations and partnerships. Coordinate with outside CPA to ensure accurate and timely tax return preparation.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Assist management with budgeting and provide accurate forecasting of cash flow and project costs. Prepare annual reconciliations and budgets of common area expenditures for rental properties.
Internal Controls:
Build and maintain financial procedures to prevent errors, such as approval workflows, reconciliation schedules, and segregation of duties.
Insurance:
Maintain adequate insurance coverage for all entities including general liability, course of construction, commercial property, and workers compensation.
Cash Management & Compliance:
Monitor daily cash flow, manage payables/receivables, handle bank reconciliations, and ensure compliance with tax regulations (including 1099s, and payroll). Work with investors and banks to obtain financing when necessary.
Subcontractor & Vendor Management:
Review and approve invoices and ensure correct pay application processing.
Team Leadership:
Supervise the accounting staff.
Required Skills and Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience:
5+ years of construction accounting experience, ideally with specific experience in residential homebuilding. Property management accounting experience a plus.
Software Proficiency:
Strong working knowledge of Quickbooks software and advanced Excel skills.
Core Competencies:
Ability to operate in a hands-on, administrative-heavy role. Strong attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and ability to work with investors, CPAs, attorneys, title companies, sub-contractors, tenants and internal team. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

From $85,000.00 per year
