Long Beach, California Pay Range:
$175,000 to $200,000 Overview We are seeking a high impact and detail oriented Controller to lead the accounting operations for a large and growing real estate portfolio based in Long Beach. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong technical accounting expertise, proven leadership experience, and the ability to translate financial data into meaningful insights for senior leadership. You will oversee financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, treasury functions, and the overall integrity of the company's accounting systems. Position Summary The Controller serves as the key link between the accounting team and senior leadership. You will manage all accounting functions, ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting, and provide strategic financial guidance that supports operational and investment decisions. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of real estate accounting. Key Responsibilities Lead month end and year end closing processes Oversee preparation and consolidation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP Supervise, coach, and mentor Senior and Staff Accountants Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policies Lead the annual budgeting process and provide variance analysis and financial insights Oversee daily cash operations, intercompany reimbursements, and cash flow monitoring Ensure compliance with lender covenants including DSCR requirements Manage accounting for property acquisitions and dispositions Oversee property tax schedules, insurance renewals, and business tax filings Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts within Entrata Ensure data integrity and optimize accounting systems for efficiency Provide clear financial reporting and recommendations to senior leadership Qualifications Required Seven to ten years of progressive accounting experience At least two years in a supervisory or management role Real estate or property management industry experience Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control frameworks Advanced Excel skills Experience with property management software such as Entrata Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly Preferred CPA license SQL proficiency Experience with multi state real estate financial regulations Personal Competencies Strong attention to detail and accuracy Results oriented mindset with the ability to meet tight deadlines Ability to work independently and collaboratively Strong leadership and team development skills Ability to maintain confidential information and organize complex data Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance with dependent coverage options Life insurance and disability insurance 401K with employer matching Ten vacation days per year to start Six paid sick days Paid holidays Rent discounts for eligible employees
