Controller

Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead accounting, financial oversight, and reporting activities for a growing insurance-focused organization in Los Angeles, California. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for a finance leader who can maintain strong controls, deliver accurate reporting, and support compliance in a regulated environment. The role will partner with leadership and external stakeholders to strengthen finance operations and build processes that can scale with continued business growth.

Responsibilities:

• Lead daily accounting and financial management activities across the organization and its affiliated entities, ensuring reliable execution of core finance operations.
• Direct the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
• Oversee reporting under GAAP and insurance statutory accounting standards while maintaining alignment with applicable regulatory obligations.
• Coordinate regulatory filings, support financial examinations, and work closely with auditors and oversight bodies on required documentation and responses.
• Strengthen internal controls and governance practices to promote audit readiness, transparency, and dependable financial reporting.
• Manage essential accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger activity, reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
• Drive efficient month-end and year-end close processes by improving workflows, resolving discrepancies, and reinforcing reporting discipline.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual tasks, enhance financial systems, and support integration between finance tools and broader business platforms. Requirements
• 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility within a controllership or senior accounting function.
• Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or comparable finance leader with ownership of reporting, controls, and close activities.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting, insurance statutory accounting, and regulatory reporting requirements within a regulated financial services environment.
• Background in insurance, insurtech, fintech, or a similar regulated industry; property and casualty experience is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated success supporting external audits, regulatory reviews, and financial compliance activities.
• Proficiency with financial reporting systems and accounting platforms, including experience with Sage Intacct or similar tools.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or equivalent credential is preferred.
