Job Summary A well-established construction organization in Murrieta, CA is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial operations in a highly visible, hands-on leadership role. This direct hire opportunity is ideal for a construction accounting professional who enjoys working closely with ownership, project managers, and operational leaders to improve financial performance, strengthen controls, and support profitable project delivery. The Controller will oversee core accounting functions while also serving as a strategic financial partner to leadership. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a stable construction environment with supportive leadership, cross-functional teamwork, and visibility across the business. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical construction accounting expertise, sound leadership judgment, and the ability to operate effectively at both the strategic and detailed transactional level. Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting and finance functions, including month-end close, year-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
- Oversee construction accounting processes, including job costing, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, project profitability analysis, and cost-to-complete reporting.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, billing, general ledger activity, cash flow forecasting, and project cost monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with prevailing wage requirements, certified payroll reporting, subcontractor compliance, labor regulations, bonding requirements, insurance reporting, and audit support.
- Partner with project managers and operations leaders to review budgets, costs, change orders, project performance, and opportunities to improve profitability.
- Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, financial procedures, and process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and reporting visibility. Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $150,000 to $165,000 per year.
