Job Description

Assistant Controller Position Summary The Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations, including general ledger management, financial reporting, budgeting, analysis, and month-end close activities. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial data, supporting strategic decision-making, and maintaining compliance with GAAP. The ideal candidate will bring strong real estate industry experience, hands-on knowledge of complex accounting transactions, and experience managing loan closings, HUD statements, and audit preparation within a fast-paced environment. Non-Negotiable Requirements Real estate accounting experience Current JD Edwards (JDE/E1) experience Experience preparing journal entries Experience preparing closing statement journal entries Experience preparing loan closing journal entries HUD statement review and reconciliation experience Key Responsibilities Oversee general ledger activities, including maintenance of accounts, fixed assets, reconciliations, and financial accuracy Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries and financial statements Prepare and review closing statement journal entries and loan closing journal entries Review and reconcile HUD statements to ensure proper accounting treatment and accuracy Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis Lead audit preparation efforts, including development of schedules and coordination with external auditors Perform detailed financial analysis, including variance analysis, budgeting support, and reporting Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and procedures Oversee job cost accounting and ensure accurate project cost tracking and reporting Collaborate with lenders and support corporate banking activities, including financing and cash management Assist with property tax appeals and provide supporting financial documentation Support cost segregation studies and related accounting treatment Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and professional development Utilize JD Edwards (JDE/E1) for accounting operations, reporting, and financial management Partner cross-functionally with finance, operations, project teams, and executive leadership Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with a strong focus in real estate Proven experience with: Cost segregation Property tax appeals Job costing Corporate banking Audit preparation Closing statement journal entries Loan closing journal entries Strong background in general ledger accounting and financial reporting Advanced knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices Current hands-on experience with JD Edwards (JDE/E1) required Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Preferred Qualifications CPA or CPA-track preferred Experience in multi-entity or property accounting environments Experience working with lenders, escrow companies, and external auditors Equal Opportunity Employer / Disabled / Protected Veterans The Know Your Rights poster is available here: https://www.eeoc.gov/sites/default/files/2023-06/22-088_EEOC_KnowYourRights6.12.pdf The pay transparency policy is available here: https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/ofccp/pdf/pay-transp_%20English_formattedESQA508c.pdf For temporary assignments lasting 13 weeks or longer, AppleOne is pleased to offer major medical, dental, vision, 401k and any statutory sick pay where required.
