Construction Location:
Orange County, CA Schedule:
Full-Time | Onsite Transition Staffing Group is partnering with a well-established Orange County-based construction company to hire a Controller to lead accounting operations and partner closely with executive leadership. This is a hands-on role for someone who brings strong construction accounting experience and has previously worked in a larger-scale construction environment. The Controller will serve as the right hand to the CFO , overseeing day-to-day accounting while helping strengthen financial processes, reporting, and controls. Key Responsibilities Oversee all accounting operations including GL, AP/AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, and accruals Lead construction accounting functions, including: WIP schedules and reconciliations Percentage-of-completion revenue recognition Job cost accounting and margin analysis Prepare and analyze monthly and ad-hoc financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) Partner closely with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning Lead external audits and year-end close Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and tax regulations Monitor and optimize cash flow, credit exposure, and financial risk Maintain accuracy and integrity across ERP and financial systems Supervise, coach, and develop the accounting team (2+ direct reports) Serve as primary liaison with auditors, banks, lenders, and external partners Utilize advanced Excel for analysis, reporting, and reconciliations Required Qualifications 5+ years of accounting experience, including a Controller or senior accounting leadership role Background working for a $100M+ revenue construction company is
REQUIRED
(experience may be from a prior or current employer) Strong construction accounting expertise, including: WIP reconciliation | Percentage-of-completion accounting | Accrual accounting | Leading external audits Proven hands-on management style and experience leading teams Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) Strong command of GAAP and internal controls ERP experience required (Viewpoint, Sage, or similar) Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Ability to work onsite five days per week Preferred / Plus Qualifications Experience supporting a construction company operating as a subcontractor to General Contractors CPA (active or inactive) Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting tools Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary commensurate with experience (target range $150,000-$175,000) Annual bonus opportunity (up to ~20% based on performance) Comprehensive benefits package Collaborative, team-oriented work environment
