Profit PURPOSE of ROLE:
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities. As the number-two executive to the CFO, the Controller will be involved in supporting presentations to the board finance and audit committee and will work closely with the leadership team. The Controller will work closely with team leaders and their staff, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
FINANCE & ACCOUNTING Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures. Coordinate and oversee all audit activity. Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner. Clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Monitor progress and changes and keep executives abreast of agencys financial status. Assist agencys leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process. Administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate. Support the COO/CFO and CEO in engaging the boards audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery. Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting. Ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period. Collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants. Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program managers and directors. Continuously collaborate with program managers and directors to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations. Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.

Leverage strengths of the current finance team, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals. Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization. Create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
EXPECTED PROFICIENCIES
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to the agencys mission. Must be a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the COO/CFO, the responsibility for finance. A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential. Technology savvy with experience overseeing accounting software and managing relationships with software vendors. Keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus. simple reporting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to executives, board or other outside partners. Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers. Must exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and works, to maintain constructive working relationships. Keep professionalism at all times, including setting and maintaining appropriate boundaries. Ability to interpret and adapt to competing priorities and conflicting deadlines. A high level of integrity and strong ethical values. Excellent follow through, can do attitude to get the job done.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. Master of Business Administration or CPA is highly desired 4+ years' experience as a Controller within the nonprofit sector with a successful track record in nonprofit grants management, compliance, and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants. 8+ Years' experience in accounting. Proven experience as an accounting manager, senior accounting manager or in similar roles. Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments. Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting Proficient using large ERP systems, tools (Sage Intacct highly desirable) and advanced Excel capabilities to enhance accounting processes, reporting, and analytics in large and dynamic organization. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present financial information. Ability/willingness to work flexible hours.
