MARS Builder Solutions Controller Wildomar, CA (On-Site) $150,000
  • 175,000 Position Overview Mars Builder Solutions is a private equity-backed construction platform supporting $100M+ in revenue across solar, roofing, and related services.
The company is in an active phase of acquisition, integration, and operational scaling, requiring a more disciplined and scalable accounting function. We are seeking a Controller to lead the accounting function and establish a high-integrity financial infrastructure capable of supporting continued growth. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a strong operator who can execute at a high level while building structure, process discipline, and accountability across the function. This role is best suited for an individual who has successfully operated in environments that require both ownership and problem-solving, and who is comfortable stepping into ambiguity and driving clarity. The Controller will report directly to the CFO and play a key role in elevating accounting operations to a private equity standard. Key Responsibilities Financial Close & Reporting Lead and execute a timely and accurate monthly close process (target: 10 days) Ensure financial statements are complete, accurate, and in accordance with GAAP Establish and enforce standardized close procedures, timelines, and accountability Oversee journal entries, accruals, and allocation methodologies Perform and institutionalize balance sheet and variance analysis Balance Sheet Integrity Develop and maintain robust reconciliation processes across all accounts Ensure all balances are fully supported, reviewed, and resolved on a monthly basis Identify and resolve legacy issues, discrepancies, and process gaps without reliance on external direction Construction Accounting & Revenue Recognition Oversee WIP accounting and revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 Ensure accurate cost tracking, margin visibility, and revenue timing Accounting Operations & Leadership Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and general accounting functions Drive discipline and accountability across invoicing, collections, and cash flow Develop and mentor accounting staff, setting clear expectations and performance standards Technical Accounting & Compliance Manage lease accounting, intercompany transactions, and consolidations Develop and maintain reserve methodologies (including warranty reserves) Establish and maintain internal controls and audit readiness Systems & Process Improvement Lead accounting-related ERP enhancements and integrations (NetSuite) Design scalable processes for job costing, inventory, and financial reporting Reduce reliance on manual processes and implement system-based controls Qualifications Required CPA (active or inactive) Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field 7+ years of progressive accounting experience Strong knowledge of GAAP and ASC 606 Demonstrated ownership of the monthly close process, including driving timelines and accountability across stakeholders Proven ability to identify issues, prioritize effectively, and resolve problems independently Experience operating in fast-paced, evolving environments where structure is still being built Preferred Experience in construction, solar, or project-based accounting Experience in private equity-backed or high-growth environments Experience with NetSuite or ERP implementations Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and multi-entity structures Work Environment & Schedule On-site role based in Wildomar, CA Full-time, Monday-Friday Additional hours may be required to support close cycles and business needs High-accountability environment with direct exposure to executive leadership Benefits & Perks Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance 401(k) with company match Company-paid life insurance Cell phone reimbursement Paid Time Off (PTO) and sick time Paid holidays Position Impact This role is critical to the continued growth and maturation of the organization.
