Job Description:
Controller Alliance Resource Group is hiring for a Controller on behalf of a growing, multi-location retail organization operating within the automotive and warehouse/distribution space. We are seeking a highly engaged, hands-on Controller who is comfortable being deeply embedded in the business, driving financial discipline, improving accounting operations, and supporting long-term scalability. This is not a passive or purely strategic leadership role - the ideal candidate is an operator, builder, and problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment. About the Role The Controller will oversee all core accounting functions while partnering closely with executive leadership and operations teams to improve visibility, profitability, and process efficiency across multiple locations. This role requires someone who is highly detail-oriented, execution-focused, and capable of balancing day-to-day accounting leadership with process improvement initiatives and systems optimization. Key Responsibilities Manage the month-end close process and oversee all financial reporting Ensure accuracy of the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial statements Oversee daily accounting operations including AP, AR, fixed assets, and related functions Maintain strong internal controls and support audit readiness Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis Partner with operations teams to improve store-level profitability and performance metrics Analyze labor costs, margins, and operational financial drivers across locations Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, systems, and reporting efficiency Lead accounting process improvements and support ERP/system upgrades or implementations Help establish scalable accounting infrastructure aligned with organizational growth Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited university required 8-12+ years of progressive accounting experience Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar accounting leadership role Strong hands-on experience managing: Month-end close Financial reporting General ledger management Complex reconciliations Experience in multi-location, high-transaction environments required Retail, automotive, warehouse/distribution, or service industry experience strongly preferred Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls Experience partnering directly with operations teams on profitability analysis and financial performance Hands-on experience improving accounting workflows, systems, or ERP implementations Proven experience leading and developing accounting teams Preferred Qualifications Experience managing multi-entity structures and intercompany accounting Experience standardizing accounting processes across decentralized locations Exposure to audit environments or advisory board reporting Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is: A builder and operator, not just a delegator Execution-oriented and highly accountable Comfortable rolling up their sleeves and solving problems directly Practical, process-driven, and operationally minded Strong at balancing accounting accuracy with business partnership Comfortable working on-site and embedded with leadership and operations teams Work Environment This is a fully on-site position (5 days per week).
