Job Description

Job Description Controller Company Summary Our client is a dynamic private equity-backed heavy transportation and logistics leader with a stellar eight-year track record of buying, building, and successfully scaling our operating companies. Driven by an aggressive and highly strategic acquisition mode, we don't just maintain the status quo-we expand it. If you are looking for a fast-paced, high-exposure environment where your work directly impacts M&A activity and organizational growth, you've found it. We pair the financial backing and sophistication of a PE firm with an entrepreneurial, collaborative culture. Best of all, you will report directly to a foundational CFO who has been at the helm for all eight years-offering unparalleled mentorship, a steady hand, and a proven playbook for professional development. For a high-performer, this role is a fast track to an Accounting Manager position in the near future. Responsibilities As the Controller, you will own the accounting function, lead financial reporting, and play an active role in our ongoing acquisition strategy. Managing one direct report (Senior Accountant), your core responsibilities will include:
Financial Statement Preparation:
Own the end-to-end preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for corporate and operating entities.
Month-End & Year-End Close:
Lead and optimize the close processes, ensuring rigorous balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and complex journal entries are completed efficiently.
Investor Reporting:
Partner closely with the CFO to prepare sophisticated financial packages and reporting metrics for our private equity investors.
Vendor & Ledger Management:
Oversee bank reconciliations and manage our outsourced accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions to ensure seamless operational cash flow.
Audit Prep & Compliance:
Drive year-end audit preparation, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors and maintaining best-in-class internal controls.
Team Leadership & Mentorship:
Directly manage, mentor, and develop a Senior Accountant, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Qualifications We are seeking a sharp, ambitious accounting leader who is ready to leverage their foundational experience in a high-growth corporate role.
Experience:
5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with a required foundational background starting in public accounting or financial consulting at a reputable CPA firm. Prior supervisory experience is a plus.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Credentials:
CPA certification (or progress toward it) is highly preferred.
Skills & Technical Savvy:
Strong understanding of US GAAP, exceptional Excel skills, and experience managing outsourced financial functions or navigating ERP transitions.
Attributes:
A natural problem-solver with high emotional intelligence who thrives in an evolving, fast-paced environment. You are someone who takes initiative, communicates effectively with executive leadership, and is actively looking to be mentored into an expanded leadership role.
