2 Norwalk, CT Job Details Full-time 4 days ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance Life insurance Qualifications Accounts payable Bachelor's degree Business Administration Clerical experience Delegation Full Job Description The Controller is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations, and provides strategic leadership for the company to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies. The controller will report to the CFO. The Controller manages all financial activities for multiple current entities and other future entities that are created including preparation of current financial reports as well as summaries and forecasts for future business growth and general economic outlook.
  • Directs the preparation of all financial reports, including income statement, balance sheet, tax returns, statement of cash flow, forecasting, and reports for government regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains the trial balance up to and including reconciling major balance sheet accounts such as cash, accounts receivable, inventory (maintain perpetual inventory system), and accounts payable.
  • Oversees budget preparation and audit functions.
  • Works closely with external accountants and accounting firm
  • Meets regularly with corporate office staff, showroom staff, and manufacturing staff to keep informed and to offer direction.
  • Reviews reports to analyze projections of sales and profit against actual figures, budgeted expenses against final totals, and suggests methods of improving the planning process as appropriate.
  • Confers with CFO to coordinate and prioritize planning.
  • Reviews and serves as backup to generate WIP.
  • Reviews commission reports
  • Reviews and updates Fixed Assets Reports and entries in the GL.
  • Works with banks and/or investment bankers to raise additional capital as required for expansion.
  • Maintains documented system of policies and procedures and maintains a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff in the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance required; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of ten years related experience
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation a plus
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Maintains a complete understanding of WIP
  • Proficient in QuickBooks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient in accounting and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Experience in multi-state sales and use tax

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees planning, assigning and directing work, performance management, addressing complaints and resolving problems. This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Morning, evening, and weekend work may be required as job duties demand, especially during month end and year end. This position requires up to 10% travel.
