Starts at $110,000-140,000 Position Overview The Controller will serve as a key leader within the accounting team, acting as the right hand to the Director of Accounting and supporting the financial operations of a growing commercial property management company. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and driving process improvements across the organization. The Controller will directly manage and mentor a team of four, including an Accounts Receivable Coordinator, two Accounts Payable staff members, and a Senior Accountant. This individual will play a critical role in building scalable processes and supporting continued portfolio growth. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across departments including Real Estate, Construction, and Facilities. This is a full-time, in-office position based in New Castle, Delaware. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4 accounting professionals Oversee daily accounting operations and ensure efficient workflow distribution Partner closely with the Director of Accounting on departmental strategy and execution Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment Accounting & Financial Operations Oversee preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Manage general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and financial accuracy Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures Design, implement, and continuously refine scalable accounting systems, processes, and workflows to support organizational growth and operational efficiency Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis Property & Project Accounting Oversight Develop a strong understanding of property and project-based accounting Oversee accounting related to property management operations and capital projects Partner cross-functionally with Real Estate, Construction, and Property Management teams Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of project costs and property performance Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight Supervise AP and AR functions, including invoice processing and collections Evaluate and improve accounting workflows and systems Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements Compliance & Reporting Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant financial regulations Maintain audit readiness and support external audit processes Prepare financial reports and analysis for senior leadership Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience 3+ years of direct experience supervising, leading, and developing accounting teams in a fast-paced environment Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting Experience in real estate, property management, or project accounting preferred (or ability to quickly learn) Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems (Yardi experience a plus) CPA designation preferred but not required Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and team development skills High attention to detail and organizational ability Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills Process-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentCompensation & Benefits Salary Range:
