About the Role We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Comptroller to oversee the financial operations of our growing construction company. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting and finance background, extensive experience in the construction industry, and a thorough understanding of job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and construction financial management. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, maintaining internal controls, and providing strategic financial guidance to support company growth. Key Responsibilities Oversee all accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Manage construction job costing, project profitability analysis, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules. Monitor project budgets, cost tracking, and forecasting. Develop and maintain internal financial controls and accounting procedures. Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and regulatory compliance. Manage banking relationships, bonding requirements, and insurance reporting. Prepare cash flow forecasts and financial analyses for executive management. Supervise and mentor accounting staff. Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate financial reporting throughout each project's lifecycle. Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred). Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience , with at least 3-5 years in the construction industry .
Strong knowledge of:
Construction accounting Job costing Percentage-of-completion accounting WIP reporting Financial reporting and budgeting Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage Contractor 100 Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments. Preferred Qualifications CPA designation. Experience working with multi-entity organizations. Familiarity with union payroll, certified payroll, and contract compliance. Experience managing bonding capacity and lender reporting.
