The Humane Society of Greater Miami (referred to as "Company") is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of animals in need. Our mission is to provide compassionate care, advocacy, and support for animals while educating the community about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. POSITION SUMMARY
The Finance Director is responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspects of the organization's operations. The position provides leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and financial reporting efforts of the organization. The Finance Director must provide sound financial and strategic advice to the Executive Director, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Directors. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements for accuracy and budget comparative information. Review and discuss with the Executive Director. Responsible for preparation of the annual budget, revised budget(s) and forecast(s) as needed. The bottom-line key performance indicator is a balanced budget at the end of each fiscal year and a clean audit. Provide ongoing counsel and recommendations to the Executive Director for the best possible strategic position. Serve as an active member of the Senior Leadership team to provide support and timely reporting to the Executive Director and team. Provide ongoing financial updates and address questions from the Board at the regularly scheduled meetings. Provide leadership of finance functions and meet regularly with the Executive Director to provide recommendations. Final approval rests with the Executive Director. Assess existing financial processes, controls, and reporting practices and implement improvements and best practices to strengthen financial operations, internal controls, accuracy, efficiency, and organizational accountability. Prepare monthly cash flow projections and financial statements to review with the Executive Director, the Board Treasurer and the Executive Committee. Prepare weekly cash position reports to review with the Executive Director to plan cash disbursements accordingly. Responsible for all documentation and managing of the annual independent CPA firm year-end audit. Responsible for providing all documentation and review of yearly Tax Forms (990/5500) prepared by independent CPA firm. Coordinate with Executive Director and the Board Finance committee the management of agency investments per investment policies and initiate changes as recommended by the committee. Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all banking and investments accounts. Supervise other finance staff as appropriate. Insure accurate and timely reporting to all funding sources, including grants from public and private sources. Review grant proposal budgets. Review all account coding, bank deposits, and check payment vouchers. Review general ledger for accuracy Responsible for timely payment of accounts payable. Supervise credit card processing and its reconciliation. Supervise post event fundraising reports to ensure timely collections of outstanding receivables in conjunction with Events Coordinator. Oversee all the Financial Department's filing systems. Perform other related duties assigned by the Executive Director. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; or minimum of 10 years of progressive finance experience in lieu of a degree. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as a Controller, Finance Director, or similar financial leadership role, preferably within a nonprofit organization. Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, internal controls, and nonprofit accounting principles. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and QuickBooks required. Experience with other accounting software and financial systems a plus. Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively with leadership, staff, Board members, auditors, and external partners. Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and strong work ethic. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sitting for prolonged periods while working at a desk or computer. Frequent use of a computer, including typing and viewing screens for extended periods. Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting of office materials (up to 10-15 pounds).
