We are looking for an Assistant Controller with strong project accounting and regulatory compliance experience to join their Finance & Accounting team. Key Responsibilities Oversee project cost accounting for 150+ active projects simultaneously across geotechnical, Phase I/II ESA, remediation, and hazardous waste service lines. Apply ASC 606 revenue recognition standards across T&M, fixed-fee, cost-plus-fixed-fee (CPFF), and not-to-exceed (NTE) contract types. Manage the full month-end and quarter-end close cycle, targeting a 5-business-day close. Prepare and review invoices to federal, state, and municipal clients in compliance with FAR and DCAA requirements. Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements and eliminate intercompany transactions. Deliver monthly financial reporting packages to senior management: P&L by service line, project profitability, utilization metrics, and backlog analysis. Serve as primary contact for external auditors and coordinate with tax advisors on federal/state filings. Act as Finance superuser for the ERP/project accounting system and lead process improvement initiatives. Train and mentor Staff Accountants and Project Billing Specialists. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 15 years of progressive accounting experience. Minimum 3 years in a project-based professional services firm (engineering, environmental consulting, architecture, or construction strongly preferred). Prior experience with government contract billing (FAR/DCAA) highly preferred. At least 2 years in a supervisory or senior individual contributor role. Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, Power Pivot, XLOOKUP, financial modeling). Working knowledge of
ASC 606, FAR
Part 31, DCAA, ASC 842, and ASC 810. Power BI or Tableau experience a plus.
Compensation & Benefits Base Salary:
$65,000 - $95,000 Medical, Dental & Vision insurance 401(k) with 1% employer match, immediate vesting
PTO:
8 days Years 1-2; 15 days starting Year 3 Life insurance and
FSA Pay:
$65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
