Reporting directly to the CFO and serving as a key member of the Operational Leadership Team, this role ensures the integrity of financial operations while supporting the organization's mission-driven work in hospice care. The Controller will oversee all areas of accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, cash forecasting, fund accounting, trust reconciliation, debt activity, and revenue oversight. This position plays a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting organizational decision-making, and driving process improvements across the finance function. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee preparation and accuracy of financial reports, statements, and month-end close. Other duties as assigned Approve standard and non-standard journal entries, accruals, and system integrations. Monitor account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies. Supervise accounts payable processes, vendor payments, prepaid expenses, and asset depreciation. Coordinate the annual audit and Medicare Cost Report; support budget development. Maintain accurate fiscal records, documentation, and compliance files. Drive process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and support cross-training initiatives. Assist in gathering and entering data for the organization's annual budget. Collaborate with leadership to provide guidance on budgeting and financial management. Partner with Human Resources on benefit analysis, HRIS customization, and related projects. Oversee data integrity across financial systems and reporting processes. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise Senior Accountants, Payroll Administrator, and Accounts Payable Specialist. Ensure team members are properly trained and understand role expectations. Provide coaching, manage performance, and document accordingly. Support employee development to promote engagement and growth. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings per organizational policy. Monitor attendance and approve timecards and time-off requests. Ensure compliance with required education modules and annual competency reviews. Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative team environment.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday:
8:00 am- 5:00 pm. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Minimum of 5 years of relevant financial experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and advanced spreadsheets Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Effective communication and interpersonal skills High level of accuracy and attention to detail Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team Ability to adapt to changing business needs and implement process improvements
