Job Description
A growing, established home services company in the Chicagoland area is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead its accounting and finance function. This individual will serve as the top finance leader within the organization and play a critical role in strengthening financial reporting, improving processes, and supporting continued growth. The company currently generates approximately $34 million in annual revenue and has a small team of accounting professionals in place. This role will provide leadership, structure, and strategic oversight to the department while partnering closely with ownership. Position Overview This is a leadership role for an experienced accounting professional who can bring organization, accountability, and process improvement to a growing business. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on — someone comfortable rolling up their sleeves while also guiding the financial direction of the company. Key Responsibilities Lead and oversee all accounting and financial operations Manage and develop a team of several accounting staff members Prepare and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions Monitor cash flow and provide financial visibility to ownership Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes Identify and implement process improvements and operational efficiencies Partner with external CPA firms for tax preparation and compliance Support leadership with data-driven financial insights and decision-making Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience Prior experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior accounting leader Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting Experience managing accounting teams Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a growing organization Experience in Home Services Preferred Experience Experience in home services, construction, or skilled trades industries Experience with QuickBooks and/or industry-specific accounting software CPA or CMA certification Why This Role Is Exciting Opportunity to serve as the #1 finance leader in a growing company Direct visibility and partnership with ownership Ability to shape processes, systems, and team structure Stable organization with strong growth trajectory High-impact leadership role with real influence on business operations About the Search This confidential search is being conducted by People MVR, a recruiting firm partnering with the organization to identify a strong financial leader to guide the next phase of growth.
