Job Description

Position:
Assistant Controller Team:
Accounting Department Reports to:
Controller Location:
Slingshot Corporate Office, Marion, Indiana Commitment Level :
Full-Time, In Office About Us At Slingshot, we don't just "do" accounting; we build the financial engine that powers educational innovation. Our Accounting team serves as the company's strategic scoreboard, providing the real-time feedback necessary to reinvent the retail experience. As an EdTech company, we aren't interested in "the way it's always been done." We are looking for a foundational team member who views a messy process as a puzzle to be solved and a manual task as an opportunity for automation. The Opportunity We are seeking a logical thinker and proactive problem-solver who is an expert in accounting. This isn't a role for someone who just wants to check boxes; it's for someone who wants to own the "how" and "why" of our financial infrastructure. You will be a key architect in building scalable operations, leveraging technology to eliminate friction, and translating complex data into the strategic insights that drive our growth.
What You'll Do:
Engineer Scalability:
Don't just record expenses—reimagine the entire procure-to-pay cycle. You'll identify bottlenecks and implement the tools and automations that allow us to scale without adding friction. Bridge the
Gap:
Act as a cross-functional consultant for Sales, Operations, and Retail teams. You'll help them understand their financial impact and build the data pipelines that keep the organization synced. Optimize the
Engine:
Own the general ledger and month-end close not just for accuracy, but for efficiency. You'll treat the chart of accounts and the closing cycle as a product that needs constant refinement.
Ensure Structural Integrity:
Apply U.S. GAAP and compliance standards as the blueprint for our growth, ensuring our financial foundation is rock-solid for audits and future expansion. What You'll Bring (Qualifications): A "Solution-First"
Mindset:
You are naturally curious and bothered by inefficiency. You don't just find a discrepancy; you find the root cause and fix the workflow.
Technical Fluency:
You view Excel (XLOOKUPs, pivot tables) and ERP systems (NetSuite is a plus) as your primary tools for solving business riddles.
The Language of Business:
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with the ability to translate "Accounting-speak" into actionable advice for non-financial colleagues.
Adaptability:
You thrive in high-growth environments where the "right answer" might evolve as the company doubles in size.
Precision & Craft:
An obsession with accuracy, because you know that great decisions can only be made with great data.
Nice-to-Haves:
3+ years of experience in a high-growth or tech environment where change was the only constant. A track record of taking a manual process and making it digital or automated. A genuine interest in leveraging technology to evolve and optimize our industry's core processes.
