Job Description

A well-established, privately held, service organization in Central Indiana is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing all core accounting functions while providing strategic financial guidance to executive leadership. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting expertise, proven leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Position Summary The Controller is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the accounting operations of the company while serving as a working leader within the accounting department. This role oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and compliance activities. The Controller works closely with leadership to provide accurate financial information and analysis that supports operational and strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities Lead day-to-day accounting and administrative operations. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, retirement plan reporting, year-end reporting, and coordination with external accounting partners. Ensure accurate and timely preparation of weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports. Develop, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Monitor company financial performance and recommend benchmarks and metrics for measuring success. Manage credit and collections activities. Safeguard company assets through sound financial controls, auditing practices, and risk management strategies. Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts; analyze and report significant variances. Coordinate annual financial reviews and provide required documentation to external auditors. Deliver financial analysis and recommendations to leadership to support cost management, productivity improvements, and operational efficiency. Coach, mentor, and develop accounting team members. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. Minimum of seven years of progressive accounting or fiscal management experience. Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and general accounting principles. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting/payroll software systems. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and communicate across all levels of the organization. Experience with QuickBooks, ADP, or similar accounting and payroll platforms. Preferred Qualifications Experience in an accounting leadership role within a small to mid-sized business. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities. High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality. Pay:
$85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
