Job Description

Controller Salary $95-110k + bonus Overview Our service and maintenance company is seeking a highly analytical, detail-oriented, and driven financial professional to join our corporate accounting team as Controller in Slidell, LA. As a premier service provider and facility maintenance contractor, serving clients across Louisiana and Texas, our operations span multiple divisions including environmental services and ASME-certified fabrication. The Controller will play a vital role in overseeing daily accounting operations, managing multi-location financial reporting, and ensuring precise project job costing and accounting. This individual will partner closely with the CEO/CFO to drive accurate financial analysis, maintain internal controls, and support the company's regional growth. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & General Ledger Management Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes for multiple divisions and entities. Prepare and review accurate balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements in accordance with US GAAP. Reconcile complex general ledger accounts, bank statements, and intercompany transactions across our various regional offices Manage fixed asset accounting, including depreciation schedules for industrial construction equipment, fleet vehicles, and specialized machinery. Project Accounting & Job Costing Oversee project-based job costing systems to ensure labor, equipment, and material allocations (including specialized repair and maintenance services and welding services) are accurately tracked against contracts and POs. Collaborate with Project Managers to review Work-In-Progress (WIP) reports, analyze budget vs. actual variances, and evaluate project profitability. Monitor client billing schedules, retainage, and major vendor accounts payable to optimize project cash flows. Compliance, Tax & Controls Ensure rigorous compliance with federal, state (LA & TX), and local multi-jurisdictional tax guidelines, including multi-state payroll and sales/use taxes for contracting services. Maintain and strengthen internal control policies and documentation to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks. Coordinate deliverables and provide comprehensive support for external annual financial reviews, insurance audits, and tax preparations. Team Leadership & Operations Directly support and mentor a lean accounting team (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, and Payroll). Drive continuous process improvements by leveraging technology to automate workflows, streamline billing, and reduce monthly close cycle times.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
Experience:
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally featuring a mix of public accounting and corporate industrial environments.
Industry Background:
Prior accounting experience in industrial construction, oil & gas field services, heavy mechanical contracting, or infrastructure is highly preferred.
Certifications:
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation is a strong plus.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel usage and related applications and hands-on experience with mid-market general ledger and project accounting softwares (e.g., Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300 Construction, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar project-costing platforms).
