AM Overview:
Carpenter & Paterson is hiring for a full-time Controller to work out of their Waggaman, LA location. This role will be responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting and accounting operations. Will also be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Controller supervises the department as well as general reception and administration and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
Essential Duties:
Ensure the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions. Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Responds to inquiries from the Executive team regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like. Ensure a clean and timely year-end audit. Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met. Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department. Provide training to new and existing staff as needed. Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc within department. Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff. Work closely with parent company in UK which involves frequent financial reporting, strategic planning, etc.
Ideal Candidate:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance including a CPA license is required. Minimum of 5 years of management experience working in a medium to large accounting firm. Exposure or experience with an ERO implementation a plus. Proficient with utilizing software and has excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment. Is organized, able to prioritize, and thinks strategically. Excellent interpersonal and management skills and able to work with a team to achieve results.
