Job Description

Description Green Garden Products, a subsidiary of Central Garden & Pet, the number one supplier of top-quality flower seeds and non-GMO vegetable seeds for the gardening industry, is now seeking a Controller for the Norton, MA facility. This is an Exempt, full-time position reporting to the Director of Finance. Central Garden & Pet Company (

The Controller is responsible for supervising and coordinating the broad accounting activities of the Green Garden business unit. The candidate must motivate, develop, and lead their team to drive functional objectives and set an example for the team to follow. The base salary range for this position is $115,000 - $125,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. This role is eligible for a discretionary management bonus of up to 10% of base salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities:
Oversee general ledger and accounting functions and systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate financial records Lead monthly close activities by managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results. Effective cross-functional communication to ensure delivery of required schedules and analyses Timely completion of account reconciliations and journal entry documentation Manage internal controls and compliance programs, ensuring that SOX requirements are being met satisfactorily Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable and banking functions Oversee management of Canadian and local bank accounts and intercompany activity Coordinate activities of external auditors and other external consultants Ensure sales tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes as appropriate Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis Hire, train and retain skilled accounting staff Education, Years of Experience, Technical requirements: Bachelor's degree required At least five years of relevant experience Knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) Experience with internal and external auditors and compliance with the provisions of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Strong working knowledge of inventory Standard Costing and Bill of Materials Demonstrated computer skills, with proficiency using Microsoft Office, Hyperion; Sage experience is a plus Experience with Canadian operation would be a plus, but not required Strong written, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization.
