Job Description

ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
Reporting To:
Controller Responsibilities Assist with coordinating monthly close procedures, including: Preparing and reviewing standard and general journal entries Monitoring monthly and year-to-date activity versus budget and prior year Performing fluctuation and variance analysis and escalating significant items as appropriate Support the Controller in overseeing accounting, treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, purchasing, insurance, and related financial activities. Prepare timely and accurate financial reports and analyses to support management's review of the organization's financial performance. Assist in preparing reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position, including income, expenses, and earnings. Partner with other Finance team members to help maintain proper accounting records, internal controls, and financial systems. Support treasury-related activities, including cash management, banking relationships, and monitoring of company assets. Assist in evaluating the organization's financial position and preparing reports related to financial stability, liquidity, and growth. Support the annual budgeting process, including compiling budget data, reviewing departmental submissions, and preparing supporting documentation. Help monitor revenue controls and participate in audit or review procedures to ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with contractual terms. Assist with tax reporting, audits, and regulatory filings by gathering data and working with internal and external partners. Support preparation of financial statements and reports required for internal use and external stakeholders. Collaborate with Finance and operational leaders to analyze operational and cost-related issues and assess their financial impact. Assist with cost accounting procedures, reporting, and related analyses. Provide support on special projects, system enhancements, and process improvements within the Finance function. Serve as a backup to the Controller as needed and help mentor or guide junior accounting staff. Qualifications & Experience 5-8 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including supervisory or senior-level responsibilities. Experience in construction management, service delivery, or HVAC industry is a plus, but not required. BA/BS in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to clearly communicate financial information. Solid understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and support leadership initiatives. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and assist during periods of financial or organizational change. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with management, auditors, and cross-functional teams. Experience with accounting and financial software systems, including ERP systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
