Job Description:
Position Overview The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the accounting and financial operations of the construction company. This role is hands-on and responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance across multiple projects and entities. The Assistant Controller plays a key role in job costing, WIP reporting, and month-end close while partnering closely with project management and operations teams. Key Responsibilities Assist with full-cycle accounting operations, including general ledger oversight, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close Prepare and review monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and management reports Oversee job costing, WIP schedules, percent-complete accounting, and cost-to-complete analysis Review and support AIA billing, draw packages, and lender reporting Partner with project managers to monitor budgets, change orders, and project profitability Review accounts payable, payroll, and subcontractor cost allocations for accuracy Assist with cash management, forecasting, and weekly cash flow reporting Support audits, tax filings, insurance reporting, and compliance requirements Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures Supervise and mentor accounting staff; review work and support team development Assist with system improvements, ERP utilization, and process enhancements Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within construction or project-based environments Strong understanding of construction accounting concepts, including WIP, job costing, retained earnings, retainage, and revenue recognition Experience working with construction ERPs (e.g., Sage, Intacct, Viewpoint, Procore, QuickBooks Enterprise) Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling) Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities Proven ability to partner with operations and communicate financial information clearly All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status.
