Job Description

Assistant Controller - Construction Assistant Controller - ConstructionPosition OverviewWe are seeking an Assistant Controller to join our growing construction firm. The ideal candidate will assist with financial management, support reporting functions, oversee accounting processes, and ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards. This role collaborates closely with project managers and the finance department to deliver accurate and timely financial information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis for construction projects.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing.
  • Coordinate and perform reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
  • Help maintain internal controls and ensure adnce to financial policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to track project costs and report variances.
  • Assist with cash flow management and banking activities.
  • Contribute to audit preparation and provide documentation to auditors as required.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff.
  • Stay up to date with industry standards, company policies, and relevant regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in construction or project accounting.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and construction accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, point) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant certification.
  • Experience with job costing and project billing in the construction industry.
  • Experience with process improvement or implementing new systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros, etc.).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems specific to construction.
