Job Description
Controller
We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations of our organization, specializing in federal and military construction projects. This role demands a strategic leader who can ensure compliance, maintain financial integrity, and drive performance across all accounting and financial processes. If you have a strong background in construction accounting and federal contracting, this position offers an excellent opportunity to lead and shape the financial vision of a dynamic company.
Responsibilities:
- Direct all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and project accounting.
- Prepare and manage accurate financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
- Oversee job cost accounting, work-in-progress schedules, and revenue recognition based on percentage-of-completion methods.
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations and cost accounting standards for government contracts.
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to support organizational goals.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to ensure audit readiness for both financial and government audits.
- Collaborate with project leaders to assess contract performance and mitigate financial risks.
- Manage cash flow and maintain strong banking relationships, including oversight of bonding and financial capacity.
- Provide strategic financial insights to executive leadership to support decision-making.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team to achieve departmental goals.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry, with a focus on federal projects.
- Proven ability to lead and manage accounting and finance teams effectively.
- Expertise in job costing, financial reporting, and construction revenue recognition.
- Extensive experience in federal contract compliance, including audits and cost accounting standards.
- Proficiency in construction accounting systems such as Deltek or Sage 300.
- Strong analytical skills combined with excellent leadership and communication abilities.
- Experience with bonding, surety relationships, and financial reporting for contractors is preferred.
