Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the YMCA association and supports accurate financial reporting, internal controls, and fiscal accountability across all locations. This position works closely with the CFO and leadership to ensure timely monthly closings, reconciliations, payroll support, payable and receivable processing, and audit preparation. The role requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Process and review journal entries, accruals, allocations, and reconciliations. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and credit card statements. Ensure accurate coding of revenues and expenses. Oversee accounts payable processes including invoice entry, approvals, and payment processing. Monitor accounts receivable balances and assist with collections as needed. Ensure accurate cash receipt processing and deposits. Assist with payroll reconciliations and payroll-related journal entries. Assist the CFO with annual budget preparation and forecasting. Prepare departmental and branch financial reports. Support directors with financial analysis and reporting requests. Monitor spending trends and assist with variance analysis. Assist CFO with annual audit preparation and supporting documentation. Maintain accounting records and documentation for compliance purposes. Ensure adherence to YMCA fiscal policies and internal controls. Help improve accounting workflows and efficiencies across branches. Assist with credit card management and purchasing controls.

QUALIFICATIONS
Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred. Minimum 3-5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience. Nonprofit or multi-location accounting experience preferred. Understanding of accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting, excel and accounting software systems Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities independently.
