Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Controller to lead our financial operations and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with applicable regulations, and strong internal controls. This role oversees accounting functions, supports budgeting and forecasting, manages audits, and helps ensure financial sustainability in alignment with the mission of the nonprofit organization. Supervises 3 accounting staff. Duties Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash management Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP for nonprofits Ensure proper tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds Analyze financial data and provide meaningful reports and recommendations to leadership Maintain the chart of accounts and accounting policies and procedures Ensure bank accounts are reconciled Provide support to point of sale and inventory control, including training and monthly report for users of the point of sales system Ensure accurate financial reporting for grants, contracts, and donor-restricted funds Coordinate grant financial reporting and support program staff with budget compliance Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including IRS and Uniform Guidance (as applicable) Coordinate and manage the annual independent audit and prepare financial schedules Implement improvements to accounting systems and processes as needed Develop and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard organizational assets Supervise, train, and develop accounting staff Serve as a finance resource for program and department leaders Support the CFO with financial analysis, board reports, and strategic initiatives Present financial information to leadership, committees, or the Board of Directors as needed Prepare annual budget materials provided by departments Experience Proven experience in corporate or governmental accounting with a strong understanding of GAAP and IFRS standards. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, management CPA preferred Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience preferably in nonprofit accounting Management experience preferred Experience of collaborating with external auditors, compliance, and regulatory oversight. Knowledge of Office Suite and Excel and familiarity with software like Blackbaud (CRM) and accounting software. Strong knowledge of cash management, account reconciliation, balance sheet analysis, and account analysis. Excellent skills in financial report writing, forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
