Job Description

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations for a portfolio of hotel assets managed by the company. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, compliance with brand and ownership requirements, and effective financial support to both corporate leadership and on-property management teams. The Controller will act as a key liaison between property-level finance teams, ownership groups, and corporate leadership. 1. Financial Reporting & Close Process Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for all managed hotel properties 2. Property-Level Oversight Supervise and support on-site hotel accounting and payroll teams (Controllers, Assistant Controllers, Bookkeepers, HR manager) Ensure consistency in accounting practices across all properties Conduct periodic property visits to review: Internal controls, Cash handling procedures, Compliance with company policies Partner with General Managers to improve financial performance and cost controls 3. Budgeting & Forecasting Lead the annual budgeting process for all hotel assets Collaborate with operations teams to develop realistic revenue and expense assumptions Oversee monthly reforecasts and rolling projections Provide financial insights and recommendations to improve NOI (Net Operating Income) 4. Cash Management & Banking Monitor property-level cash flow and liquidity Review bank reconciliations and ensure timely completion Oversee disbursement processes, including: Accounts Payable, Owner distributions, Capital expenditure funding Maintain relationships with banks and lenders 5. Compliance & Internal Controls Ensure compliance with: GAAP standards, Brand/franchise reporting requirements, Management agreements and loan covenants Develop and enforce internal control policies to safeguard assets Coordinate and manage: Internal audits, External audits, Tax preparation support 6. Systems & Process Improvement Oversee accounting systems (e.g., hotel PMS integrations, accounting software Inn-Flow) Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy Standardize reporting templates and workflows across the portfolio Support system transitions or upgrades as needed 7. Team Leadership & Development Manage and mentor corporate and property-level accounting staff Establish performance expectations and conduct regular reviews Train teams on accounting policies, procedures, and best practices Build a scalable accounting infrastructure to support portfolio growth 8. Strategic Support to CFO Provide financial analysis to support acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancing Assist in due diligence for new hotel investments Prepare lender reporting packages and covenant calculations Support capital planning and ROI analysis on renovations (e.g., PIPs, HVAC upgrades) Review and approve property-level financial statements, including: Profit & Loss (P&L) Balance Sheets Cash Flow Statements Ensure timely delivery of financial reporting packages to ownership groups and lenders Consolidate financials across the portfolio for CFO review Analyze variances vs. budget, forecast, and prior periods Timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting (monthly close within X days) Clean audit results with minimal adjustments Consistent property-level compliance with internal controls Improved forecast accuracy across portfolio Reduction in reporting errors and rework Strong retention and development of accounting staff Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred) 7-10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in hospitality or hotel management Multi-property or portfolio accounting experience required Experience working with hotel brands (e.g., Marriott, Hilton, IHG) preferred

$60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
