About the Job The Controller is responsible for overseeing financial activities including developing, implementing, and monitoring effective internal controls and procedures, evaluating project financials, preparing accurate and timely reporting, and providing advice and input on financial decisions impacting Bauer Companies and their affiliates. This person will work collaboratively across the Bauer portfolio to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company policies while ensuring daily accounting functions are executed timely and accurately. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversight of all accounting operations including billing, collections, accounts payable, general ledger, cost accounting, and revenue recognition. Many of these accounting operations will be performed by other members of the accounting team, thus requiring appropriate leadership communications and performance management messaging across the businesses.
  • Implement necessary internal controls and ensure they're followed. Develop and document business processes and accounting policies and practices to maintain and strengthen internal controls. Assist leadership with banking and treasure functions, including forecasting short and long-term cash needs and managing debt.
  • Support current ERP (Vista) implementation and optimization initiatives. Develop accounting efficiencies and processes that dovetail with such implementation seamlessly. Assist with data integrity review and reporting validation.
  • Prepare and publish complete, accurate, and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports. Monitor day-to-day cash flow and communicate with the appropriate internal resources to adjust when needed. Support and oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Coordinate and provide required information to external auditors where needed.
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting. Coordinate the preparation of tax, business entity, and regulatory reporting (if required). Research technical accounting issues for compliance. Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information related to project pricing, employee compensation, Company acquisitions and all other financial information deemed to be sensitive or proprietary. Accurately and confidentially maintain Company records and other sensitive business and client data and intellectual property.
  • Provide communications, mentoring, coaching, problem-solving and training to staff and other co-workers at all levels as needed. Advise and coach employees and provide performance feedback regularly. Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting or MBA; CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in financial reporting and/or public accounting/audit, including consolidations and audit management.
  • Solid technical knowledge of accounting principles with the ability to implement new accounting policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Strong accounting, critical thinking, and advanced analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software, Microsoft Excel, and data analysis tools. Experience with Vista by Trimble Viewpoint is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to design/implement processes and controls, lead projects, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Effective collaborator in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills; strong organization, time management, and teamwork; ability to maintain confidentiality.
