Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to support financial operations for an education-focused organization in Springfield, Massachusetts. This Contract position will play a key role in maintaining accurate accounting records, overseeing reporting activities, and strengthening day-to-day financial controls. The ideal candidate brings strong fund and grant accounting knowledge along with the ability to manage close processes and deliver timely financial insight.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead monthly close activities by preparing and reviewing journal entries, verifying balances, and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Maintain fund and grant accounting records with careful attention to compliance, allocation accuracy, and reporting requirements.
  • Produce recurring financial reports that provide clear visibility into operating results, restricted funds, and budget performance.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts on a regular basis and investigate discrepancies to support accurate financial statements.
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing processes to promote efficient transaction processing and documentation.
  • Assist with audit readiness by organizing financial records, responding to information requests, and upholding internal controls.
  • Use accounting systems and reporting tools such as ADP, Concur, and Crystal Reports to manage data and prepare analysis.
  • Partner with finance leadership on accounting functions, process improvements, and other priorities tied to departmental operations.
