Full-Time, Exempt Position Overview Are you an experienced accountant looking to grow into a leadership role while making a meaningful impact? As Assistant Controller, you'll play a key role in supporting the financial health of a mission-driven nonprofit medical clinic. This position offers hands-on experience across financial reporting, payroll, and grant management—along with the opportunity to collaborate across departments and develop leadership skills under the guidance of the CFO. This is an ideal role for a detail-oriented, motivated professional seeking to expand their expertise in nonprofit accounting while contributing to a purpose-driven organization that serves the community. What You'll Do Financial Accounting & Reporting Maintain accurate financial records using MIP Fund Accounting and Excel Prepare monthly financial statements and internal reports that support decision-making Assist with month-end and year-end close processes Serve as a trusted backup to the CFO when needed Compliance & Audit Support Help ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards Assist with external audits and work directly with auditors to gather documentation Support preparation of financial information for regulatory and funding requirements Payroll & Benefits Process and review payroll for accuracy and timeliness Administer employee benefits, deductions, and related reporting Ensure compliance with payroll laws and reporting requirements Grant & Fund Accounting Track and report on grant funding to ensure compliance and accuracy Partner with program staff to monitor spending and align with grant requirements Prepare financial reports for grants and funding sources Leadership & Growth Opportunities Supervise and support accounting staff, helping build a positive team environment Gain valuable leadership experience through coaching and process improvement Collaborate with leadership and operations teams across the organization Collaboration & Operations Support Build strong working relationships across departments Provide occasional support to front office operations when needed Participate in cross-training to strengthen organizational continuity What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Nonprofit experience a plus, not required Solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP knowledge preferred) Strong Excel skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality
