Job Description

Robert Half has partnered with an established and growing construction company in Raleigh to assist them in hiring an experienced Controller/Accounting Manager. This onsite role will lead the accounting and financial operations for their organization in Raleigh, North Carolina. Construction experience is required and a CPA is a plus. This position plays a central role in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening reporting processes, and supporting sound business decisions through thoughtful analysis. Experience with Sage, Timberline or another construction based software is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, deep technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to oversee day-to-day finance activities with precision and accountability.
Responsibilities:
  • Direct daily accounting operations across the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations to maintain accurate and timely financial records.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports that provide clear insight into company performance.
  • Lead the month-end closing process, ensuring account reconciliations are completed accurately and deadlines are consistently met.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support planning, cost control, and strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor job costing and operating results, analyzing variances and trends to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee payroll administration and related benefit processes, including retirement plan coordination, while maintaining compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to tax, regulatory, and internal financial control standards through thorough review and oversight of accounting practices.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, promoting collaboration, accountability, and high-quality execution across the finance function.
  • Support the effective use of accounting systems and reporting tools, including Sage platforms and Excel-based analysis, to improve efficiency and financial visibility.
