We are seeking a hands-on Controller to manage day-to-day financial and accounting operations across a diverse public, nonprofit, and mixed-finance housing portfolio. Reporting to the Deputy CEO-Administration & Finance, this role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance, and strong internal controls.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Oversee general ledger, reconciliations, payables/receivables, payroll review, and cash management Prepare GAAP financial statements and HUD reports (FASS/REAC) Manage budgets, cost allocations, cash flow, and variance analysis Ensure compliance with
HUD, GASB, IRS
tax credit, and NC requirements Coordinate audits and supervise finance staff Knowledge and skills: Strong knowledge of governmental, nonprofit, and partnership accounting ability to manage complex, multi-entity accounting environments, managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines Strong analytical and organizational skills and an excellent communicator Capable of performing detailed accounting work while supervising Special Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid NC driver's license. Drug testing, criminal background check and DMV check required. Desirable Education & Training Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or related field (preferred) Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience; public/affordable housing preferred Supervisory experience required CPA preferred
