JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller is responsible for complex accounting tasks, including the financial statement close process, preparing and analyzing financial data, reviewing and improving financial workflows, creating financial forecasts, and assisting the VP & Controller through various projects that support the organization's mission. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Leadership, Management & Accountability (LMA)
- Accounting Clerks Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of Accounting Clerks (Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions) Establish clear performance expectations, priorities, and workflows to ensure timely and accurate transaction processing Monitor productivity, accuracy, and service levels; hold team members accountable to performance standards Coach, develop, and evaluate staff; provide ongoing feedback and conduct Quarterly Conversations Drive process discipline and continuous improvement within transactional accounting functions 2.
Month-End Close Lead and coordinate the monthly close process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules Ensure completeness and integrity of financial data across general ledger and sub-ledgers (AR, AP, inventory) Identify and resolve discrepancies; enforce adherence to close timelines and procedures Continuously improve close efficiency, accuracy, and documentation standards 3. Financial Analysis Perform and deliver financial analysis and reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making Analyze variances (actual vs. budget/forecast/prior periods) and communicate key drivers to leadership Develop and maintain financial models, KPIs, and dashboards for performance tracking Provide actionable insights on financial performance, risks, and opportunities Support budgeting and forecasting processes as needed 4. Product Cost Accounting & Analysis Oversee and maintain product costing methodologies (e.g., standard costing, actual costing as applicable) Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs to ensure accuracy and proper allocation Monitor cost variances and partner with operations to identify root causes and improvement opportunities Ensure integrity of cost data within the ERP system, including bills of materials (BOMs) and routings Support pricing decisions and margin analysis through detailed cost insights 5. Production Accounting Analysis Analyze manufacturing and production-related financial data , including yields, scrap, and variances Partner with operations leadership to evaluate production efficiency, capacity utilization, and cost performance Track and report on key production KPIs (e.g., labor efficiency, waste, throughput) Identify trends and recommend actions to improve operational and financial performance Ensure alignment between production activity and financial reporting
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Undergraduate degree in accounting. 2. CPA and/or MBA preferred. 3. Minimum of three years of accounting experience in a public accounting firm or private industry. 4. Knowledge and proficiency of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 5. Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel. 6. Microsoft Power BI experience preferred but not required.

This position supervises the Accounting Clerks (AP & AR)
