Job Description

Employment Opportunity:
Finance Director The Town of Swanzey is seeking a skilled and strategic Finance Director to lead municipal financial operations and support the Town's long-term fiscal health. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring sound financial management, maintaining strong internal controls, and providing clear, data-driven guidance to Town leadership. The Finance Director will oversee all functions of the Finance Department and serve as a key advisor on financial planning, policy, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct and manage all Finance Department operations Develop and administer the Town's annual operating and capital budgets Lead financial forecasting and long-range fiscal planning efforts Monitor revenues and expenditures to support informed decision-making Coordinate the annual audit and implement audit recommendations Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements Establish and maintain effective internal controls, policies, and procedures Oversee financial aspects of grant management and reporting Advise the Select Board and Town Administrator on financial strategy and policy matters Supervise, mentor, and support professional development of Finance staff Identify and implement improvements to financial systems and processes
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience; municipal finance experience strongly preferred Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance Demonstrated analytical ability, sound judgment, and attention to detail Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism Commitment to public service and collaborative problem-solving
Compensation & Benefits:
This is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in a community-focused organization and contribute to critical financial decision-making. The position offers a salary range of $100,000-$120,000, depending on qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
