Job Description

Overview:
Corporate Controllers at Jefferies are the gatekeepers of the Firm's books and records. We play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data by coordinating closely with other controller teams, operations, and Finance groups. Our primary focus is on maintaining controls and ensuring that all financial activity is properly recorded and reflected in the General Ledger. We work closely with various departments to ensure the reliability of the Firm's financial statements at both the consolidated and legal entity level. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced, financial control oriented Corporate Controller to join our accounting team. This role will be responsible for ensuring robust internal controls, policies, and procedures are in place across key corporate processes, including Fixed Assets, Leases, Prepaid Assets, and the General Ledger. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of financial statements and demonstrate strong technical accounting expertise in compliance with US GAAP. In addition, the candidate should be knowledgeable in emerging technologies, including AI-driven tools, and be open to adopting and leveraging new technologies to enhance efficiency and strengthen financial processes. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to clearly articulate and document processes, controls, and recommendations related to financial reporting in a concise and timely manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
Own the accounting, review, and reconciliation of the Firm's lease and fixed asset portfolio. Maintain the integrity of controls over the general ledger and lease accounting system. Manage updates to the Firm's chart of accounts, cost centers, and business units. Prepare equity pick up journals and review the equity roll forward, including related disclosures. Coordinate the amortization of prepaid account balances with offshore counterparts and regional controller teams. Own the reconciliation, substantiation, and reporting of various financial statement accounts, including leases, fixed assets, and prepaids. Collaborate with offshore corporate accountants to manage deliverables and ensure timely execution. Ensure the timely and accurate production of financial disclosures, Develop and maintain policies and procedures for certain Corporate processes in collaboration with global teams. Demonstrate a proven ability to transform processes, driving efficiency, standardization, and automation were appropriate. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 7+ years of experience in accounting. Demonstrated experience in fixed Asset and lease accounting. Proficiency in Peoplesoft or a comparable ERP system. Expertise leveraging AI-driven tools to extract, analyze, and interpret financial information, with a willingness to adopt and utilize emerging technologies.
Primary Location:
Jersey City Full Time Salary Range of $120,000-$130,000
