Job Description
Client:
Community Development Financial Institution Role:
Assistant Controller (Temp to Perm)Pay Rate:
$50- 55/hr
- $110,000/annually
- $115,000/annually when converted to a perm employee!
Location:
New Brunswick, New Jersey (Hybrid- 3 days a week onsite

Core Responsibilities Financial Stewardship & Reporting:
Lead the accounting and financial reporting for a diverse portfolio of legal entities, including those with external investment partners.The Close Cycle:
Orchestrate timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; prepare both consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements.Compliance & Tax:
Coordinate the preparation and review of tax filings and regulatory requirements, ensuring all entities remain in good standing.Audit Management:
Act as a primary liaison for annual audits, coordinating with external auditors to ensure a seamless and transparent review process.Internal Controls:
Maintain and refine accounting policies and internal controls to safeguard organizational assets across all structures.Quality Oversight:
Review journal entries, complex account reconciliations, and supporting documentation with an uncompromising eye for detail.Strategic Support:
Provide high-level financial analysis for management and board-level reporting, translating complex data into actionable insights.Growth & Special Projects Process Evolution:
Identify and implement system enhancements to scale our accounting function.Investment Support:
Manage the nuanced reporting requirements for investment funds and partnerships.Ad-hoc Initiatives:
Lead special financial projects and strategic initiatives as the organization expands its impact.Who You Are Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.Certification:
CPA strongly preferred.Experience:
7+ years of progressive accounting experience.Technical Mastery:
Deep knowledge of GAAP and advanced Excel skills.Complexity Management:
Proven experience navigating multi-entity structures, partnerships, or investment-related accounting.Preferred Skills:
Background in Impact Investing, Community Development (CDFI), or Financial Services . Experience with partner reporting and complex waterfall structures. A "process-improvement" mindset—you don't just follow the manual; you help write a better one.The Environment Hybrid Flexibility:
