Job Summary:
The Controller oversees all financial operations of the property, providing accurate and timely financial reports and analysis to the General Manager and management team. This role ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements while managing the accounting staff and maintaining financial controls.
Essential Functions and Duties:
Supervise the accounting and finance team, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and night audit staff. Approve purchases within budgetary guidelines and oversee cash handling procedures. Prepare financial analyses of hotel operations and report findings to management. Manage labor and expense forecasting, providing reports to department heads. Reconcile operating bank accounts and monitor daily cash deposits and credit card transactions. Prepare and present financial reports, including P&L statements, forecasts, and variance reports. Ensure compliance with tax filings and assist with audits. Train hotel management in budgeting and fiscal management tools. Maintain records of contracts, insurance policies, tax reports, payroll, and other financial documents. Oversee HR-related financial processes, including payroll and personnel documentation. Participate in management meetings and provide financial updates. Ensure compliance with all fiscal policies and recommend operational adjustments as needed. Required Experience, Education, and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred. Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in hotel accounting or a similar role. Strong understanding of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience in preparing and analyzing financial reports, including P&L statements and forecasts. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong leadership and team management abilities. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based work with occasional walking, standing, and lifting of items up to 10 lbs. Frequent use of computers, requiring extended periods of sitting and reviewing financial documents. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on reporting deadlines and operational needs.
