Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Reno, Nevada. This role will guide the accounting function, strengthen internal controls, and deliver timely financial insight to executive leadership and the board. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit or grant-funded finance experience and can translate complex financial data into clear, actionable information.
Responsibilities:
  • Direct the daily operations of the finance team, ensuring accurate execution across accounting and reporting activities.
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and present meaningful analysis to organizational leaders and the board.
  • Oversee cash management practices to support liquidity, accountability, and sound fiscal stewardship.
  • Lead core transactional functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and related reconciliations.
  • Manage the annual budget process, monitor financial performance, and explain variances against forecasts and approved plans.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls to promote compliance, accuracy, and effective risk management.
  • Coordinate audit preparation and serve as a key finance contact for external auditors and funding-related reviews.
  • Administer financial oversight for grants and subrecipients, including compliance reporting for federally funded programs.
  • Communicate financial results, trends, and risks clearly to leadership, the board of directors, and other governing stakeholders.
