Plant Controller Robert Half - 3.9 Cheektowaga, NY Job Details $130,000 - $150,000 a year 1 day ago Benefits Disability insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Vision insurance Qualifications Closing the books Full Job Description We are looking for a Plant Controller to provide financial leadership for a manufacturing operation in Cheektowaga, New York. This role works closely with plant leadership to translate financial results into practical recommendations that strengthen performance, improve cost visibility, and support sound business decisions. The position oversees plant-level accounting activities, safeguards reporting accuracy, and helps drive operational improvement through disciplined analysis and planning.
Responsibilities:
Act as the primary finance partner for plant leadership, offering insight that supports operational and strategic decision-making. Direct plant accounting processes, including product costing, inventory accounting, accrual management, forecasting, and routine financial reporting. Review monthly results, identify key drivers behind performance, and present clear recommendations to improve efficiency and profitability. Collaborate with operations, production, and supply chain teams to evaluate performance and address cost, output, and process challenges. Lead the development of annual operating plans, financial forecasts, and longer-range planning activities for the facility. Track major manufacturing cost components such as labor, materials, overhead, freight, and inventory to highlight risks and opportunities. Maintain accurate inventory reporting by overseeing cycle counts, physical inventory procedures, and reconciliation activities. Conduct cost-focused reviews to investigate production variances, inventory differences, and other financial discrepancies. Strengthen internal controls and financial workflows to support compliance with company policies and required reporting standards. Support continuous improvement efforts by using financial analysis to guide process enhancements and operational gains. 7+ years of experience in plant finance, manufacturing accounting, or a related controllership role. Strong background in manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costing and cost analysis. Experience managing month-end close activities and preparing accurate plant financial reporting. Working knowledge of inventory controls, physical inventory processes, and variance investigation. Familiarity with bill of materials (BOM) structures and their impact on product costing and inventory accuracy. Ability to partner effectively with cross-functional teams in operations, production, and supply chain environments. Proven skill in forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing manufacturing cost drivers to support business planning.
